Ongoing Projects

Educational Support for Chibok Girls

This project aims to provide safe and quality education for Chibok girls and their relatives who were once victims of the Boko Haram insurgency in Northeast, Nigeria.

The Initiative started in 2018 with a total of 4 direct beneficiaries sponsored by Victim Support Funds (VSF) and 22 indirect beneficiaries supported by private individuals.

Mentorship Programme for Women in Business

Murtala Muhammed Foundation as one of the partners of Cherie Blair Foundation for Women assists in selecting women in Nigeria for the Mentorship Programme.

For these women to be selected, certain criteria must be met to ensure there is a total commitment throughout the 12 months dedicated to the mentorship program. A total of 130 women mentees with support from MMF have recorded growth in their businesses.

Humanitarian Response Programme

MMF Scholarship Safe School Initiative under the flagship of the scholarship program is one of MMF’s ongoing and most recent projects. Students from unsafe communities in Borno and other parts of the North East are enrolled in safe schools in other regions within and outside their states.

This initiative is to give the students access to adequate learning in a safe environment. With support from Sahara Foundation, a total of 80 students in primary, secondary, and tertiary institutions are in school with access to quality learning.

Past Projects

Digital Leadership – Computer 4 Schools Programme (C4S)

The C4S Initiative is a comprehensive approach to introducing children in small and under-developed communities to the use of technological devices to facilitate learning.

As a result, schools were provided with well-equipped computer laboratories. In 2007, computer laboratories were set up in 56 public schools in 6 geopolitical zones in Nigeria, with an impact of over 20,000. A total of 150 secondary school teachers were trained; we believe for teachers to serve as leaders in the classroom, they also need to possess adequate knowledge of how these devices are used in facilitating various learning processes in a school setting.

The objective of this project was:

  • To create an avenue where students can obtain extensive, quality, and relevant training on the use of technological devices.
  • To make computer laboratories readily available to selected secondary school students.

Zuba Box(Computer Aid International, UK)

In 2013, the Zuba box was launched. It is a solar internet hub designed to function anywhere in the world with no requirement for internet or electricity.

This innovative ICT hub was readily made available in rural areas, especially IDP camps where there is little or no electricity and technological devices.

The hub was designed to be environmentally friendly, economically viable, and culturally acceptable. The ICT hub has and still is continually contributing to quality education.

Crisis, Trauma, and Counselling (CTC) Centre in Kano

This center was established in 2013 as an innovative scheme to help mentally traumatized persons overcome their experiences from the disaster caused by Boko Haram in Northern Nigeria.

This center empowers these people to lead productive lives despite the pain, grief, and suffering they were once faced with.

Grace Mandela is one of the world’s leading advocates for women, children, and communities affected by conflict and injustice. In 2016, another women’s power lunch was held; this was themed “Women in Solidarity: A New Paradigm for Inclusion”. This was hosted by H.E. Mrs. Joyce Banda, former first female president of Malawi, who is also the second female president to rule in Africa.

The third power lunch was held in 2018 themed “Smart Economics: Empowering Women In A Changing World”. This event was hosted by H.E. Prof. (Mrs.) Ameenah Gurib-Fakim, former and first female president of Mauritius.

Capacity Development for Women (2018)

These female investors were hosted by Namibian ambassadors, top government officials, and industry captains based in Namibia. Likewise, female investors from Namibia also visited Nigeria for investments.
